The above chart shows the relative size of each sector included in the CRC. The supermarkets dominate the CRC with 10.7 MtCO2 and 16% of the total CRC footprint. This is followed by Local Government which includes the Local Authorities and State Schools (The UK Has over 400 Local Authorities and over 17,000 state schools). If you would like to see who is included in the CRC please see our interactive graph of CRC Participants.
The supermarkets have been making good progress with reducing energy consumption. All of the top 4 have been awarded an approved Carbon Reduction Standard and are predicted to be near the top of the CRC Performance League Table.
This has important considerations, particular for recycle payments. Due to the size of their footprint and good performance with early action metrics they are likely to take a large share of the recycle revenue payments. This means that organisations need to carefully plan their Early Action Metric strategy and if they have made a reduction in carbon emissions make sure they don't leave it too late to get an approved standard.
