During the first year of the CRC the performance league table is entirely dependent on the Early Action Metric. Download a copy of our CRC Early Action Metric Strategy for more information.

The first component of the EAM is the introduction of voluntary, automatic meter reading. Some organisations will not be able to implement voluntary metering. This is because their energy supplies are already metered by mandatory half hour meters. For others the cost and complexity of implementation may be a barrier. Timescales are also tight. Voluntary metering systems need to be installed prior to 31st March 2011.
A common misunderstanding...
Some organisations have misunderstood the rules that apply when calculating the benefit for voluntary automatic metering reading. They thought that installing voluntary AMR by 31 March 2011 would receive the same benefit as if they had the metering installed on 1 April 2010. The
Organisations benefit from the percentage of gas and electricity supplies measured through AMR during the first year (1st April 2010 – 31st March 2011). The earlier you install AMR and measure supplies through these meters the greater benefit you will receive.
The second component of the Early Action Metric is to obtain certification for the carbon savings your organisation has already made. The Carbon Saver Gold Standard™ has been specifically designed to qualify as an Early Action Metric for the CRC.
The Carbon Saver Gold Standard™ also provides wider cost and reputational benefits:-
On average businesses who have implemented a carbon standard methodology have achieved 300% more carbon and energy cost savings
The Carbon Saver Gold Standard™ is a robust and independent standard. Stakeholders can have confidence in an organisations green claims, with third party assurance that it's not 'green wash'!
Unlike other certification schemes, the Carbon Saver Standard offers a tiered implementation approach. This makes it easier for organisations which may not be CRC participants to achieve 'quick wins' at low cost.
